on portland

i wrote this for jason’s little cousin for a school project:

Hi! my name is jing wang and i’m alex’s cousin’s girlfriend.  we live in beautiful Portland, where the willamette and the columbia rivers meet. we are surrounded by a fertile valley with beautiful forest and many waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls, the second tallest in North America.  There are many local farms and wineries nearby.  The oregon coast, with its rugged beaches and abundant seafood is just an hour’s drive away as is Mt hood and the famous mt st helens.  The weather is rainy in the winter and dry in the summer with temperatures in the 40s to 80s.

Portland is known for roses that bloom all summer and the many bridges that connect the east and west sides of the city.  It is a very green city with lots of people riding bikes or riding public transportation instead of driving. we are also leaders in research on green building technologies such as windfarming and stormwater mitigation.

There is a lot of delicious food to try, such as vietnamese and mexican, and you can you go hiking just outside of town.  Many young artists and musicians live here so there are always interesting cultural events to attend. We love living here and hope that you and your families come to visit sometime.

what i left out was: beer, strippers, permissive marijuana legislation, hot beardy boys, and the best lady friends you could ever wish for.
